When a business trip to Romania turns to a crazily funny travel romance

A businessman is sent to Romania to find a plot for a new hotel. When he is pointed to a small Transylvanian village, a wild and funny plot unravels.

Why did our protagonist remain in the village, and why was he subsequently driven out in disgrace? Who is the man hiding under the table? What do you do when your neighbor raises a pig on his terrace? And, is it true that sweet garlic and a good man are two things that are hard to come by?

Funny, original and woven with insights about life and human relationships

Stealing Love places its charming protagonists in bizarre situations, anchored in the unfamiliar and fascinating context of Romanian villagers daily-life. With skill and charm, H. Schreter portrays funny, zany and memorable characters who never fail to surprise the reader.

I really enjoyed everything about this book. It was full of humor, great characters, and bits of wisdom mixed in with wild and crazy adventures that the main character got into. We meet a lot of people in the book but their character detail is enough to remember them easily and they all added to the story. I did receive an ebook version in exchange for my honest review. No other compensation was received. Opinions are my own.

Stealing Love A humorous Romantic Novel edition by H Schreter Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I couldn't really get into this book, it really didn't have much romance or even a great plot. It had some weird characters and some Yiddish, that kinda had me like "huh". It wasn't my cup of tea, but not everyone likes tea.
I received an advanced copy of this book from ARC.
This book is about an Israeli who travels to Romania on business for an extended period of time. He has lots of trouble and meets many interesting people. I liked the descriptions of the ways of life in the villages he visited. There is humor, too.

The Israeli is not a likeable character. He calls his boss's secretary a hag. He can't decide if he loves someone and it doesn't appear that he does love either woman - it seems he just wants to be with someone.

A good read for a trip.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is a different genre than I usually read but it kept me interested from page one until the very end.

The author did a great job with creating the characters, and every character is memorable. There is humor, wisdom, and lots of adventures through out this entire story. I am sure the main character never dreamed when he accepted the position in Romania that his vehicle would be a casket bearer for a funeral. This is just one of the many things that he encounters through out this journey.

This was a well written adventure that I would highly recommend to anyone.

Full Disclosure I received the eBook version of this story for free; however I am under no obligation to review this story. I receive no compensation in return for this review, and I am leaving it because I would like future readers to know whether this is a good book or not. This is my honest opinion and mine alone.

This book was a good read. Schreter does a stand up job really adding wit, humor, and some drama into his novel. I liked how personable the characters were. This book has wild situations and crazy riddles that must be solved, which draws you in to read more and more to find out. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to readers.

***I did receive this book at a discounted price to share my honest review***
It was a real pleasure to follow the story of a Jewish business man in my home country. I laughed almost at every page and I recognized a lot of "Romanian true facts" mentioned by the foreigner landed in my country. I highly recommend this read as I couldn't let it out of my hands until I finished it. Funny, witty, sad, romantic, real.
I really loved this book. What a great story, full of all the stuff I like, quirky loveable (and not so loveable) characters, insightful dialogue, wrapped up nicely in an interesting story about one man’s business trip through Romania. This is how much I liked it – initially I got this book as on a limited promotion for free. After reading it, I deleted it from my kindle and went ahead and purchased it (Come to find out you can’t purchase a digital book you already have, so I had to delete the free version first). A writer who puts out work this good deserves to get paid. Plus, at $1.99 it’s a steal. I’ve certainly paid much more for books that couldn’t compete with this one. I didn’t want the story to end. If you’re looking for an interesting, feel good, quirky story that deals with many of the facets of humanity, I think you’ll enjoy “Stealing Love.”
“You don't have to like the protagonist, I know he can be annoying,” H. Schreter assures us in his intro to “Stealing Love A humorous Romantic Novel”--“but after you're done reading the book, try to love yourselves, those around you, and whatever it is that you do, and do at least one good deed a day.”

Well, if you put it that way, all right. I’ll be as nice as possible in saying the hero is definitely not the stuff of a Romantic Novel. A humorous Romantic Novel? Depends on your sense of humor. For me it was sometimes comical but mostly not, seeing this guy bumble his way through a strip joint and a casino, buying a ring for his long-distance girlfriend, falling in love with a village girl he keeps referring to as “the angel” (she does have a name), getting in over his head as a consequence of that ring, and trying to buy land to build a hotel/resort in this quaint, picturesque town. You will be shocked to discover that in the end, he does the right thing. I just wish he’d done it with passion, conviction, and enthusiasm. His tone of detachment throughout the novel doesn’t seem to change.

The premise is charming (and has been done many times before think “Doc Hollywood,” the 1980s movie). It’s a trope we never tire of – the busy career man from the big city, stuck in the village because it takes so long to get a mechanic to work on your needlessly broken down set of wheels. Of course the villagers (or small town folk) make the long weekend so fun, the out-of-towner will end up wanting to stay after all his fussing that he has to leave, asap.

Anecdotes, superstitions, eccentrics, and classic one-liners flesh out the story. My was lighting up as I noted my favorites lines

--Her husband Lika is the uncrowned king of slackers, and the only reason he hasn't been crowned yet is because the rest of the slackers are too lazy to get around to crowning him.

--Men don't use that sentence, "we need to talk."

--If she(Mothers the world over, right?)'s isn't worrying, she'll become worried that she's not worried. She doesn't really want to solve problems or help, she wants to worry.

--"During the day I study economics at the university, and I work nights here. My presence here doesn't imply that I don't have a promising future," she (a pole dancer) says in a defensive tone. "Now you listen, when I finish my studies I'll fulfill my potential. If we meet again in a few years, you'll be impressed by me, I guarantee. And besides, who are you to pass judgment?

--Society treats prostitutes with scorn and contempt, and on the other hand they're pitied. Some girls have no choice but to be prostitutes, and others girls choose… “ (I highlighted this because it’s one of the most flaming examples of hypocrisy ever Universally, people scorn the women who use their bodies to make money, while the men who pay them get a free pass.)

--We were all born to be happy, to live a happy life and die a happy death.

For me, this message could have been delivered with half the words, or even fewer. I ended up skimming and skipping whole pages. And the hero's name should be spelled out once in a while. I honestly couldn't find his name. If anyone said it, or if he said it by way of introduction, I missed.

If you like this novel, try Rod Usher’s novel “Poor Man’s Wealth” – (click on my name, it’s buried somewhere in my hundreds of reviews). Now that’s my kind of humor.

I like the message, "Some people have watches, and others have time," but this novel could use some trimming and tightening.
I really enjoyed everything about this book. It was full of humor, great characters, and bits of wisdom mixed in with wild and crazy adventures that the main character got into.
